LITERATURE
REVIEW

Organisations may enhance and ameliorate the efficiency
and ability of the present employees through proper training and
development. Proper and comprehensive training programs should be
continous and systematic. Training is thought to be one of the many
human resource management functions that is used to increase a
organisational competitiveness. Training includes knowledge, skills
or attitudes that are very important for performing successful task.
Training programs refer to filling the gap between the present
performance and desired standard performance. Effectual training is
advantageous for all most all types of
organisations in different ways such as it plays very important role
in developing and maintaining abilities on employees and
organisational level and simultaneously it participates in
organisational change (Valleet al., 2000). The main objective of
training and development is to improve the performance of employees
and productivity. Training program should be setup through different
methods like on the coaching and mentoring, peers cooperation and
participation by the subordinates. The teamwork prepare workforce to
participate on the job and results in better performance which also
improve organisational performance.

Employee performance is almost
high in happy and satisfied employee and thus management find it easy
to motivate high performers to accomplish firm targets. It has been
observed by researchers that when workers are satisfied then they
feel competent to perform their jobs and that only take place through
effective training program. A typical term in the field of human
resource management that is employee performance which is everything
about performance of employees in an organisation. Employee
performance which involves all features directly or indirectly affect
and relate to the work of the employees.

Performance has been classified
into five groups like; Planning, building, rating, rewarding and
monitoring. There is a strong relationship between employee
performance and training and development because it positively
affects the quality of the workers knowledge, skills and ability this
give results in better employee performance during the job. Training
and development is the only authentic way of knowing the need of
employees and then developing their required skills and knowledge so
that organisational goals can be achieved while performing well. It
is risky and difficult for a new employee to perform at the job place
without any prior training (Thomas N. Garavan, 1997). Trained workers
perform well when compare to untrained employees (Partlow, 1996;
Tihanyi et al, 2000; Boudreaw et al., 2001)

If training is provided on the
job, it effectively helps employees to get desired skills and
knowledge in a systematic way because people learn more they perform
any practical and when they get experience. On the job training
reduces cost and save time (Flynn et al,. 1995; Kaynak, 2003; Heras;
2006). It is said that training is costly to give to employees but in
the end it will give back more than it took. (Flynn et al,. Kaynak,
2003; Heras; 2006).
