The According to the director of the Triangle Center

The Supreme
Court of the United States (SCOTUS) has authorized “full enforcement” of the
third iteration of President Donald Trump’s controversial travel ban that restricts
people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States,
including relatives. The latest version applies to Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia,
Syria and Yemen. Trump claims that this order is supposed to protect Americans
from “radical Islamic terrorists.”

infamous “Muslim ban” was first introduced when President Trump called for a “total
and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States” because there is
“great hatred towards Americans” among Muslims.

The latest
order was introduced in September and put on hold until SCOTUS determined that
the ban could go into full effect despite the challenges it faces in court.

Trump wants you to believe that Muslims and refugees pose a significant threat
to American lives and our national security. In reality, there’s nothing to
suggest that. The United States is home to thousands of refugees that help
contribute to making this a better place. Turning our backs on the victims of
terrorism is inhumane at the very least.

The travel
ban does not protect us from extremism. Obviously, terrorist groups like
al-Qaeda, ISIS and Boko Haram are a threat. They promote religious extremism
and violence against anyone who disagrees with them in order to accomplish
their political goals – aka the definition of terrorism. Extremism is not unique
to any one group of people. It exists in the Muslim world and in America.

to the director of the Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security, “Attacks
by Muslims accounted for only one third of one percent of all murders in
America last year. It is flatly untrue that America is deeply threatened by
violent extremism by Muslim-Americans.”

The real
threat we face is religious extremism and domestic terrorism, not Islam. According
to a survey of hundreds of law enforcement agencies around the country, “anti-government
violent extremists, not radicalized Muslims, are the most severe threat of
political violence that we face.”

1975 and 2015, zero Americans have died as a result of a terrorist attack
committed by an immigrant from one of the banned countries.

In a
report published by the Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security, “The
54 fatalities caused by Muslim-American extremists in 2016 brought the total
since 9/11 to 123. More than 240,000 Americans were murdered over the same

The idea
that this ban protects our national security is simply false. It’s not my opinion.

Data shows that we have a much bigger problem.

with access to guns is the biggest threat we have to American lives. Weapons
designed for war, to kill the greatest number of people in the shortest amount
of time, should never be owned by civilians.

Roughly 11,000
Americans were killed in gun homicides in 2016, yet what have we heard from
Trump about banning guns? Nothing. Everyone should have a problem with that.

Why are we
so concerned about Muslim extremism when 500 people were injured in the largest
mass shooting in US history in Las Vegas? Sutherland Springs, Orlando, San
Bernardino, Charleston, Newtown and Aurora. All carried out by Americans who
had access to guns. Not terrorists that came here from overseas disguised as

The biggest threat to Americans are domestic extremists, not Muslims.

The facts
are what they are, and if you believe in the nonsense rationale behind it, you
are either fine with accepting false information or you feel emboldened by the
President’s hateful rhetoric to stand up and show your own ignorant, irrational
hate for Muslims by supporting a baseless travel ban.

yourself, are you trying to solve problems or is your hatred for Muslims
explicitly rooted in bigotry?

Since 1968,
more Americans have died in the United States as a result of gun violence than
the total number of American fatalities in all of the wars in American history

It’s very frustrating
to see the headline “largest mass shooting in US history” over and over again
and see that we do nothing about it.

President Trump and the Supreme Court want to protect Americans, they would
enact real gun control.
