Khaled Thousand Splendid Suns is a third-person narrated novel

Khaled Hosseini was born in the year
1965 in Kabul, Afghanistan. Hosseini lived in Afghanistan in his early life but
later moved to Paris and then California. In 1988, Hosseini received a degree
in Biology from Santa Clara University. Hosseini then went on to attain a
medical degree in 1993 and he worked as a practicing internist. While
practicing medicine, Hosseini started writing his first novel, The Kite Runner which turned out to be a
huge success. Hosseini is regarded as one of the greatest writers of the 21st
century due to writing excellent novels such as The Kite Runner and A
Thousand Splendid Suns, which have won many awards. The Kite Runner won many awards such as the Boeke Prize and the
Alex Award while A Thousand Splendid Suns
was at the top of many lists including the number one spot of the Worldwide
Bestselling title in 2008.The Kite Runner
was published on May 29, 2003, while, A
Thousand Splendid Suns was published on May 22, 2007. The main setting for
both books is Afghanistan from the 1960s to the early 2000s. The Kite Runner is a first-person
narrated novel and the narrator is a male. On the contrary, A Thousand Splendid Suns is a third-person
narrated novel with the main character being a female. These two novels are
quite different because the lives of females in Afghanistan are much different
than the lives of males. In Afghanistan, females are deprived of basic human
rights such as protection from abuse by husbands and the right to walk around
without male supervision. The differing points of views also separates the
novels because first-person narration and third-person narration both have
their own advantages and disadvantages. First-person narration is advantageous
due to providing a direct connection with the narrator but it is
disadvantageous due to a restricted voice; the author has to write in a way
that matches the characters personality and is consistent in vocabulary. Third-person
narration is advantageous because the author can reveal small details right
away and withhold bigger plot details until the end, whereas it is
disadvantageous due to less intimacy between characters which may cause lack of
interest in the novel. Nevertheless, both novels embody a protagonist that
faces guilt and adversity throughout their journeys, however, they are able to
cope with their difficulties and overcome obstacles with  love from family and friends.
