Music is used for a variety of purposes, it can be used to pass the time or help people focus. Music is a versatile tool that can be focused into something that it does very well, which is working as a stimulus that positively affects happiness. Music is used professionally for this exact reason. Music therapy is used to help people improve their happiness by decreasing stress levels. Music also affects happiness through just casual listening, listening to music is able to positively affect happiness.  One’s happiness is heavily influenced through the music that one listens to. Music is a tool that can be used in many different ways, one such way is called music therapy. Music therapy is therapy done using music and instruments to help patients with a multitude of issues, one of which is stress relief. Music therapy is not only listening to the music, but taking an active role in thinking about the music and sometimes being incorporated into the production of the music for one to express one’s self. It has been found that the most successful form of music therapy in adolescents is “when discipline-specific music therapy techniques, such as improvisation and verbal reflection of the music, are used.” This shows that music is more than just the sounds one hears, music is thought provoking and has an effect on the brain. Music is able to reach into the brain in a way that not much else can, it is able to convey emotion, one of which being happiness. Music therapy is not only used for stress relief, music therapy is used to help treat depression as well. The patients will do a similar exercise to what adolescents do, however they take a more active role in the production of the music, using instruments as a non verbal way of communicating and being able to convey how the patient is feeling.
