                I have had a strong interest in
Aerospace Engineering ever since I was a child. This happened when I was in
school. I was particularly interested in mathematics. Later my interest in
mathematics helped me to learn about wonderful world of the physics and my enthusiasm
for airplanes only grew. During high school once I visited the RCI ( ), since
then my passion for this field went an upward trajectory. I was fascinated by
the aircrafts and decided to pursue this as my career.

                   After the completion of the
final semester, I had presented an idea regarding the hysteresis effects on
aircraft wings during flight to Mr.V . Surendranath Principle Research
Scientist at IISC Bangalore. During the course of our conversation I was
invited by him to work with him in his laboratory. I am currently working in Indian
Institute of Science (IISC), Bangalore as project assistant. Broadly speaking I
have worked on wind tunnel testing and data acquisition. As a consequence of my
work here at IISC, I have become adept in carrying out mathematical modelling
of dynamic systems. To further elucidate, I have experience in unconstrained
optimization and can accurately define equations to define any dynamic system (
2 DOF). I have worked extensively on Low speed wind tunnel the highlight of
which would be a project Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV). In this project my work
pertained to determination of mode shape of the vibrations and generalized
mass. During this project I realized a very important truth that research work
is not a walk in the park, that it is more of a struggle story, that only
through the warps of trials and retrials will the final fruit

required output. This realization has surely made me a better researcher and
prepared me for a life in core research.

                    During my association with the Low speed wind
tunnel laboratory, I used to spend a lot of time in the library, reading
voraciously about the various projects and their respective reports that were
going on in IISC. It was this way that I stumbled upon one such report
pertaining to High speed wind tunnel testing. The report nicked the inquisitive
bone within me and soon I read many other reports pertaining to the same
laboratory. Through these reports I got to understand that the procedures and
the physics related to high speed wind tunnels is completely different from low
speed wind tunnels. However merely reading the reports and research papers was
not enough for me to get the complete insight into the same. Hence I approached
Mr.Vasudevan Principle Research Scientist at the high speed wind tunnel and
subsequently was presented with the opportunity to work with him in his

                   My association with the high
speed wind tunnel allowed me to get the opportunity to study thoroughly about
the working, the physics involved and the practical limitations of a high speed
wind tunnel. During my association with this laboratory, I was able to design a
nozzle for 6, 7 and 8 much respectively. I have also read extensively about the
reports on the projects done in the high speed wind tunnel at IISC. I have also
worked on a project to measure the base pressure of the test body in the wind
tunnel both theoretically and computationally. Along with these, I have read
the comprehensive reports about Hypersonic Launch Vehicle Technology Demonstrator
(HLVTD), which is an ISRO project and deals with supersonic and mainly hypersonic
flow experimentation.

                    The curriculum at SRM allowed me to
expand my horizon by undergoing internships at various outside agencies from
the private sector. The first internship I underwent was at Skyfi Labs, where I
was introduced to the Nitti gritty of FEM, FVM, and various CFD methods.  The second internship underwent at was Vayu
Aero ,where I learnt extensively about the working of Ramjet engines. At the
termination of this internship I also carried out CFD simulation of the same
for various input parameters. Both these internships were instrumental in
developing the right attitude in me towards high quality industry oriented
application research, especially by making me aware of the steps involved in
developing the research methodology and problem solving.

               Apart from institutionalized
training programmers, I have been continuously arming myself with different
appropriate skills pertaining to the academic sphere. At the end of the First
year of B.Tech, I acquainted myself with CATIA, AUTOCAD and Ansys softwares
respectively. These tools helped me greatly in understanding the various
functional aspects of computational analysis. Riding on the back of these
skills, I got a chance to work with a SRM sponsored project aimed at developing
a novel design for vaccine boxes. I worked in the team in the capacity of design
and analysis engineer. This particular project taught me a lot about team work
and team leading/management in the professional sphere.


              During the pre-final year and
final year I used to read many articles related to different types of wings and
their configuration. Through those I learnt about various types of
configuration and their effects on aerodynamics. My final year project titled “Design
Modification Based On Experiments Conducted On sharp and Blunt Edged
Delta Wing Models” presented wind tunnel experiments on two delta wing
configuration, viz. pure delta and cropped delta, which are differentiated by
their leading edge profile: sharp and blunt edged delta wings. The course of
experiments involved placing the models in the subsonic wind tunnel at different
angles of attack while keeping the flow speed constant. The readings thus obtained
were used to calculate their aerodynamic parameters. The flow simulation was
also done using computational fluid dynamics (both subsonic and supersonic flow
speed). The study has identified interesting features of the interrelationship
between the conventional leading edge primary vortex and the occurrence and
development of the vortex breakdown above the delta wings. The results concluded
the vortex characteristics are largely dependent of the vortex characteristics
are largely dependent on the Reynolds number, angle of attack, and the
leading-edge radii of the wing. Using these information modified design to the
conventional delta wing had been

suggested. As the part of college
minor project during pre-final year I worked on “Computational Design and
Analysis of Inlet Subsonic Wind Tunnel”, the aim of the project was to
study, design and analyze a subsonic wind tunnel inlet operating at different
flow speed using computational methods.

               I have made a conscious effort to channel my
work in the area of my interest. I’ve been quite successful in doing so. I have
witnessed designing not only from an industrial part of view but also from the
perspective of research projects with unique problems. This has helped me develop
my concepts, think outside the box and approach my work from varied angles. I
want to continue working on my passion of structural and aerodynamic design
ultimately working on spacecrafts. I have plan on a pursuing a PhD in the same
area one day.
