am applying for Master in Rural Development Engineering starting in September
2018. I graduated with a Second-Class Upper degree in Agricultural Science with
a specialization in Agricultural Economics and Farm Management from Kwame
Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. My knowledge and understanding of
agriculture stems from my childhood. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a
rural part of Ghana where family farms range in size from just a few acres to
more than 10,000 acres. My family have been farmers
as far back as anybody can trace. I wish to study agriculture, not because of
my family, but despite them. My father and grandfather are both convinced the
day of the farmer has passed, and have always tried to steer me into another
field. I disagreed. I have always understood the importance of
agriculture to civilization, but from that moment forward I realized just how
much more important
agriculture would be in the future. There will
always be a need for people to grow food. I strongly feel that farmers are the creatures of God
in absence of whom life would be very difficult. I am really motivated that by
studying this field further at your University, I will develop all the
dexterities that a good farmer should have.

is an endless process which is more closely related to the importance of developing human resources. Sam Farr the American Politician said, to make
agriculture sustainable, the grower has got to be able to make a profit but
this is not the case with farmers in Ghana. Despite the number of acres of land
that they cultivate, they still earn less income. My interest in Master in Rural
Development Engineering developed during my second year at the undergraduate
level when I studied fundamental issues in rural and urban sociology. Both
agricultural policy and agricultural finance that I offered during my final
year made me realize that, most of the problems facing our agriculture sector
in Ghana are as a result of low income being received by farmers and
also wide market margins between marketers and farmers. I have genuine desire
and vision geared towards helping my country in solving most of the challenges
facing our farmers and providing means and ways to maximize their returns and
reducing the wide market margin between the marketers and farmers. Currently I
am a research assistant at the University Information Technology Service department
of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. At the department I
am responsible for helping students get research materials online.
