First of all, The Principality of Sealand is an unofficial state, whichwas created in 1967 by Paddy Roy Bates and today the Sealand is belong to his son, who name is Michael Bates. Nowadays, the situation of Sealand’s sovereignty is a controversialissue in the world, but I consider that The Principality of Sealand isnot a sovereign state, which is able toexist like a country, because of several reasons which will be provided below. At first, According to Michael and Rose interview, Michael said thatthey did not need recognition, with the aim to become a state, as thePrincipality of Sealand is suited for allcriteria of Montevideo Convention on the Rights and Duties of States, such asdefinite territory, constant population, proper government and capability tonegotiate with other countries (Eveleth, 2015). However, the MontevideoConvention on the Rights and Duties of States is referring to those countries, which are on thisconvention, on this situation these countries are from North and South Americacontinents.
Consequently, in my opinion, the Principality of Sealand is notable to attribute to this MontevideoConvention, because this convention is referredonly to Americas’s states. Therefore, thePrincipality of Sealand does not have a legalfoundation to become a sovereignand official state in the world. It isimportant to mention that at the sametime, the Principality of Sealand has an independent, which means that they areable to commit actions and the good evidenceis national symbols, own currency, documents and illegal business.Notwithstanding, I think that world recognition is the main factor to be a sovereignstate in the world level, as countries are based on their relations oncooperation with each other and recognition is one of the main criteria, If thePrincipality of Sealand is going to be asovereign country, In conclusion, to my mind, the Principality of Sealand is an independentin their action, as they are able to commit actions, within their state andthere are no countries, which could havean impact the Sealand. However, in spite of, self-support of the Principalityof Sealand, it does not have worldrecognition, which is very important for existing as a sovereign state in modern politics and relationships between states.
