Every child is a fighter.
Sometimes, it’s an actual person to battle against – a bully, a teacher or afamily member. Oftentimes, the opponent is less concrete, being a disease, adisability, a milestone that keeps moving away or a skill the child can’t seemto master, that sometimes, ending up fighting against oneself. Regardless ofthe foe, they’re in it to win. They tries to endeavor and create their owndreams. And the main factor to contemplate is for us to understand theirdreams.
But the sad truth is, we lack stability, patience and understanding asfar as the child is concern.Every Child is Special is amovie that can blow tears and at the same time, bring hope that having dyslexiais not really a desperate situation. This is not the first time I watched thismovie. It was 2007 this movie was released and it was also the year my youngersister was diagnosed with dyslexia. So, I kind of relate in this movie and thatis the first reason why I chose this over the two (Split and A monster Calls).
Iwatched this movie to further give me knowledge about the learning difficultyand how to cope with it. The movie tells in regards to boy, Ishaan Awasthi. Hewas a talented child. But he was misunderstood by his teachers.
He was onlycharacterized as a disobedient boy. Even his parents thought that the boy wasmisbehaving because he did not want to go to school. One day, after having beendisciplined by being sent by the teacher to stand in the hallway, he went away andwanders the streets. If only his parents attempted to have him tested, it maybe that he never sat still long enough to get a diagnosis. The part that touch myheart most after finding out that Ishaan will be kicked out of schoolafter the school year, his parents decided to bring him to a boarding schoolwhere Ishaan grieved more from the school’s strict faculty. These incidents crumpledIshaan’s confidence for himself and he became depressed.
He did not speak toanyone, not even to his mother or his brother. No one would even try to helphim because they did not try to understand him.Luckily he encountered RamShankar Nikumbh, the art teacher at the boarding school, who is revealed tohave the same case as Ishaan.
He helped him in his studies and his life.Through his teaching methods and agile presence, Ishaan’s attention was caughtup. Ram recognized Ishaan’s problem in reading and writing. He then approachedhis parents and told them that it was dyslexia.
Ram helped Ishaan in everyaspect he know, first he gave him the confidence he needs for him not to beafraid to express his ideas, and then, he also gave Ishaan lessons in writing, reading and in math. Ram taught Ishaan using fun procedures by applying gamesto his lessons. Gradually, Ishaan begun to improve in his studies, he has nowlittle trouble in reading, he can write properly and can solve math problems.Teaching should not only be done in one way; we should use different ways toteach our students because each and every one of us has a unique and special talent. My favorite and the best partof this movie is when Ishaan learn to trust his self. His mother andfather were crying because of too much happiness. I can feel the love of hisparents and they are very proud of Ishaan.Somehow the movie broke my heartseeing that the people that he thought would understand him were the very oneswho judged him and failed to recognize his problem.
But I cannot really blamehis parents because all they wanted was the best for him and that is why theytried so hard to push him and discipline him at the same time. The theory ofmultiple intelligence in education shows an important part hereand that can be a way in informing not only the teachers but most importantlythe parents for them to help. With time, patience and care, it helps Ishaan findhimself and realized the child’s worth and needs.Special needs people areinnocence personified.
Created with love and affection akin to God’s. Everychild matters; has the right to a good start in life and to be included. Everychild deserves a champion- an adult who will never give up on them, understandsthe power of connection and insists that they can be the best they can possiblybe.
