And sand is a very big disadvantage to the drilling fluid,ad so therefore it is very prominent to know the sand composition for every drillingfluid to be used. The apparatus used for knowing the sand content In a drillingfluid is the “SAND CONTENT KIT” which contains the measuring tube, wash bottle,combined fuel with screen mesh.

The sand content kits finds the volume per centof sand sized particles in the drilling fluid. Drilling fluid is a fluid used indrilling oil and gas wells. It has various advantages. One is to maintain downhole pressure. The addition of sand helps fulfil that purpose.                  EXPERIMENTALAPPARATUS1)    The sand content kit.

6)    I Inverted the meshcontaining a funnel in it, and take wash bottle containing water and pour itover the mesh containing the sand particles, to allow to fall into measuringtube.7)    I Allowed the sandparticles to settle before taking the percentage of sand content. SAMPLE21)    Measure 3520ml of water inthe measuring cylinder2)    Measure 35g of bentobiteusing the weighing balance3)    Measure 10g of barite usingthe weighing balance4)    Repeat procedures 3-9 fromsample 1        RESULTSAND DISCUSSIONSAftermy experiment was carried out I found out the percentage of sand contentcontained in the drilling mud to be 0.

5%for sample 1 while 0.5% for sample 2. This was done with the aid of a sand content kit.                       PRECAUTIONS1)    I ensured I avoided errordue to parallax when taking my readings on my measuring tube.

2)    I ensured that my mixtureswere thoroughly mixture to get homogenous mixture.3)    I ensured that the sandparticles I poured into the measuring tube settled before I commenced with myreadings.                    CONCULSIONSToconclude, I will say that the sand content of any drilling fluid must be knownbecause of that damages that sand procure to drilling equipment.                       REFERENCESPet313 Lesson Notes.
