Color blindness is a genetic disorder that causes the inability to see certain colors. Many people are affected by this disorder. This disorder is a sex-linked trait caused by a recessive gene. Color blindness is a result of a genetic mutation on the OPN1LW and OPN1MW genes. This mutation causes certain colors to not appear as they should.Color blindness was discovered in 1798, by John Dalton. John Dalton could not distinguish scarlet with green and pink with blue. Dalton thought that his vitreous humor was tinted blue. He wanted his eyes to be removed after death and inspected. After inspection of his eyes his theory was wrong.  His humour was clear, his DNA was examined from his eye. The eye tissue showed that Dalton was deuteranope. There are different degrees of color blindness. Some people have red-green color blindness which is the most common type. The red or green cone photopigments are .lacking or limited, which causes people to not see those specific. To test a person who thinks they have it they can take the Ishihara Color Test. This test consists of showing the patient colored circles, each of which contains a combination of dots with different colors with images that are clearly visible to those with normal vision. A person with red green color blindness see red as brownish yellow and see green ass beige. Another type is blue-yellow color blindness which is rarer than red-green but still common. The blue cone pigments are missing, which causes blue to appear green and yellow to appear violet. The HRR Pseudoisochromatic Color Test, is a test which can identify all types of color blindness.Color blindness is an inherited disorder. It is passed on through the X chromosome. This means the father cannot be a carrier of this disorder and cannot pass it on. For a daughter to get color blindness, her father must be colorblind and her mother has to be color blind or be a carrier. Because of how color blindness is passed on men are more likely to be colorblind. 1 in 12 men are colorblind and 1 in 200 women are colorblind.Color blindness has no cure. There are a few ways you can do or have to help with the disorder. They have created special glasses that can help one see color like a normal person does. Color blindness is a small disability people just adjust to and live like everyone else does.
