Chicago Fire is an American television drama series which is broadcast on British channels, like the NBC channel (USA) & Sky Atlantic (UK). The series was diffused from Season 1 on October 10, 2012. The TV series watch the lives of some firefighters and paramedics of the Chicago Fire Departments, belonging to the Firehouse 51.The workers of this firehouse earns their part owed to them, the drama beside them and hard work. The close relations between them, personal problems and pressing events, rarely let them breathe at a normal rithm. The Mayor of Chicago himself, Rahm Emanuel figured in the episode “Pilot”. He confessed that it is harder to play the role of mayor, rather than to actually be a mayor, in real life.
He accepted this challenge just to donate to the firefighter’s widow and orphans fund. Gabriela Casey is one of the principal characters of Chicago Fire. She is a paramedic on Ambulance 61 and the former Second Officer of Truck 81. She is the wife of a captain named Matthew Casey.Gabriela tends to be an extrinsic temper, a behavior which often leading her in trouble with her environment.
Gabriela Dawson is an example of modern feminism. From my point of view, she deserve this place because of her character. She decides she wants to become a firefighter, a job that is properly to men.Her colleagues work, knowing what potentially she has, sustain her, but at the Academy is looked up by men.Though, she manages to pass all the trial tests, through wish and motivation and becomes a firefighter. She is assigned to Truck 81 of firefighters, where she is received from above, again,by the opposite sex. They ridicule she and treats her badly.
Nevertheless, she try to do her job and to demonstrate them that a woman can also do what they are doing.Practically, she is a character who fights for the equality between sexes, by trying to assume their own principles and concepts. She is a strong character that makes decisions and does everything possible to accomplish its goals, in order to change the old perceptions of the society in which she lives. She is not afraid to think out loud his ideas and beliefs, by imposing on his entourage.Like one of the symbols of feminism, Simone de Beauvoire, our character is analyzing the social and psychological conditions of inferiority to which the woman is constrained. Moreover, she’s going a continuous fight with the corrupted system from his country. In conclusion, I chose this character because she is a convinced feminist which illustrates the desire for change through the fight against gender inequality, demonstrating that a woman may be as capable as a man, regardless of the chosen job or situation.
Stella Kidd is also a firefighter on Truck 81. She arise in the series in the 15th episode of season4.Before the closure of her former Firehouse, she comes along Firehouse 51, replacing Jimmy. He was a candidate and she was already a professional firefighter, so he possesses more seniority .
She had a relationship with Severide in the past and, after several years, they rejoin and the happening makes to become colleagues. At the time of their meeting, he is in a relationship with a girl suffering from cancer.Even after his girlfriend dies, he can only see her just as a girlfriend. In contrast, she falls in love with him again, loves him in secretly, desires him, but she can not have it.This character embody one of the concepts of psychoanalysis, namely desire.More briefly, she cast on the saying “to want and not to have—to want and want”.We are intended to desire not only what we can never or hardly obtain, but also what we think we did once have, like the irreproachable and unconditional love and certainty. This feeling is deeply rooted in our being, the need to feel warmth of soul, care, protection, durability and, in the end, unconditional love.
Stella illustrates this situation very well. Therefore, threw my eyes, Stella defines desire, with her sense of self-preservation, pierced by her feelings of compassion, hope, fierce desire and so on.Another psychoanalytic character is Leslie Elizabeth Shay, another colleague of Gabriela, who illustrates another psychoanalytic concept- Latency.Leslie play the principal role in the first and second season. Shay is played by the actress Lauren German, one of my favourites.
Leslie Shay was a paramedic assigned to Ambulance 61 at Firehouse 51, colleague of work with Gabriela Dawson. Shay dies on duty, unfortunately.
