Between 1865 -1900 the second industrialization was uprising. The United States economy and population was increasing dramatically. Industrialization negatively affected society. Two ways it negatively affected was the monopolize had too much control over politics and the harsh labor of unskilled workers One main negative affect was the Captains of Industry were above the government and the people. They had control and influence on the government. In Document 4, Andrew Carnegie states The decision of the wealthy will lead to better choices that the poor will make for themselves. The Captains of Industries saw themselves as superior towards the government and the people. In document 7, George Rice explains how Rockefeller ruined him. Mr. Rice Standard Oil Company offered the same quality of oil for less than Rockefeller’s oil. This was competition for rockefeller, and competition isn’t good for business, so rockefeller had to make sure he eliminate his competitors. It shows how monopolies were cold hearted when putting out competitions. In document 3, the Captain of Industries are above the capital and senates. The monopiles are wealth and powerful and nor the people or the senate’s have any type of control. In Addition document 5 states how the people should grow in power and the government should expand in strength. The populist dire political and social change and wanted the people to have more say. Another negative affected was the harsh labor of unskilled workers. This worker will be put in jobs very little experiences, get paid little, and working crazy hours. In document 2, it states how the workers just work to work and all the pride in working had been taken away. From this the workers pride in work and craft faded away. Also the work will leave workers outrageously unskilled. In document 6, Samuel Gomper says how labor should shorter hours. This shorter labor hours will reduce the jail and house populations. Labor workers must band together to protect the idea of work and improve the conditions that worker have to endure. The workers need shorter hours, better working conditions, increased wages: companies should help them push for this.Industrialization negatively affected U.S. society between 1865 and 1900. Two examples of this is the overpowered monopolies and the harsh labor labor that workers experience. The monopolies are powerful and they had control and influence on the government. The labor workers will be treated harshly and be put in jobs very little experiences, get paid little, and working crazy hours.
