An for the law and contributed to organized crime

An age of dramatic social and political change. A time when Americans lived in cities and had farms. The nation’s wealth more than doubled in 1920 and the economic growth put Americans into an “unfamiliar” consumer society. Bringing in the people that are old rich thinking they are better than those who are new rich but nevertheless, still rich. The jazz age, decade of prosperity, dissipation, jazz bands, bootleggers, and marathon dancers, all included in the extravagant parties Mr.Gatsby hosts at his house every weekend.”There was music from my neighbor’s house through the summer nights. In his blue gardens, men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and his champagne and the stars.”Women’s rights As things progressed after what happened between Gatsby and Daisy, On Election Day in 1920, millions of American women including Jordan and Daisy exercised their right to vote for the first time August 26, 1920, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was finally changed to include all American women and declaring for the first time that they, like men, deserve all the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. and because of this,  I think Daisy should leave Tom and not be financially unstable but she wouldn’t do that, she didn’t leave for the man she loved so why would she for any other reason?Prohibition 1920 is the time of manufacturing and transportation of alcoholic beverages. Prohibition generated disrespect for the law and contributed to organized crime in almost every major city.  The most known rumor is that Gatsby got his money through prohibition, and ties to the mob. Daisy also tells Tom , that Gatsby owns a couple drug stores.”it is a great advantage not to drink among hard-drinking people” – Jordan Baker”the bar with a real brass set up with gins and liquors and with cordials” Dust Bowl October 29, 1929, the stock market crashed and helped initiate the great depression.  Causing Tom and Daisy to lose all their money. From then on they moved back to Daisy’s hometown and worked for her family. During the great depression, families didn’t have homes, money, or jobs. People such as Jordan and I couldn’t afford healthcare. The dust bowl was affecting people, birth rates going down because people couldn’t afford to have babies.Causing a strain in mine and Jordan’s relationship as we were hoping to have children within the next couple of years but its already a struggle getting money from my parents who are almost broke.Harlem Renaissance The Harlem Renaissance took place during this time. The new negro movement began just as everyone started getting money. The blacks taking what they believe is their culture and who am I to stop them. The significance of the renaissance is considering the African American literature, art, and music. The type of music brought in is blues and jazz like the kind of music that is always played at Gatsby’s parties. I believe It celebrates the rejection and imitation styles of us, white Americans but instead celebrating black dignity and creativity.
